MILITARY RECORDS:

William E. Seaver enlisted as a Private in the Union Army in Company B, 8th Infantry Regiment of Michigan, on 15 February 1864. He was wounded on 12 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House VA, and was discharged from the same unit on 12 April 1865 in Detroit MI. He also enlisted, as a resident of Highland MI, as a Private in the Union Army, in Company I, 22nd Infantry Regiment of Michigan, at the age of 33 on 11 April 1865. He transferred to Company, 29th Infantry Regiment of Michigan on 29 June 1865, and was mustered out of that unit on 6 September 1865 in Murfreesboro TN ["Military Records of Individual Civil War Soldiers," Historical Data Systems, Provo UT, accessed at "American Civil War Soldiers" database on www.ancestry.com].

CENSUS RECORDS:

In the 1880 US census, the William E. Seaver family resided in Lyons, Ionia County, Michigan (transcribed as SeaRer rather than SeaVer). The household included William E. (age 37, born NY, farmer, father born MA, mother born CT), wife Fanc (age 36, born MI, keeping house, parents born NY), son William O. (age 2, born MI), and brother Milo (age 33, born NY, farmer, father born MA, mother born CT).
