Said to have come over with other Highlanders on the ship Pearl from Glengarry in the Great Glen of Scotland, arriving in New York on October 18, 1773. (Some passengers from Glengarry went on to Albany, and some settled in Kortright.) He settled on land of Philip Livingston on the Delaware River. He went to Canada in 1778 and served in the war there under Sir John Johnson.
