Before 1837 Simcoe County Settlers Before 1837: In his Book "The History of Simcoe County" Andrew F. Hunter lists about 1800 settlers in the appendix. Included under Oro Township are Wm. Reid, Concession 14, Lot 10 and James Ormsby, Concession 12, Lot 14 (E1/2).

1837 Toronto & Home District Directory: William Reid lived at Concession 14, Lot 10 in Oro Township.

22 Apr 1844 William Reid appeared before Her Majesty's Justice of the Peace for the District of Simcoe. George Ormsby attested that William was the actual settler on the West half of lot 14 in the 12th concession of the township of Oro and had about twenty acres cleared and had built a good house and barn. George Ormsby lived on the East half.

1861 Canadian Census William, 64, a Farmer born in Ireland lived with his wife Elizabeth 62, born in Ireland in the 2nd Ward of the Township of Oro, Simcoe County, Ontario. Their religion was Episcopalian. They lived in a one story log house.

Miscellaneous Notes: - Daughters Jane and Eleanor Reid: We have no direct evidence that they are daughters of William Reid and Elizabeth Boyd. They are included based on the circumstantial evidence of the closeness of the Reid and Ormsby families. They came from County Sligo, Ireland at about the same time to Oro Township. They married Ormsby men and lived adjacent to each other as reflected in the 1861 census. [Notes from Tom Webber]
