  19. William and Isabella were probably his parents. They were definitely the parents of all the other children shown. Their son John, was the father of Anthony Storey Reed (qv) who was identified as William Reed's nephew and was executor of his will in 1856. Presumably then, William and John were brothers.
However no baptism record has been found for William. The records for St Peter's Monkwearmouth were destroyed in a fire in 1790 and attempts at reconstruction were made at the time, but naturally success was only partial.
This baptism entry for William states that his mother was Elizabeth. It is believed that this is an error of the reconstruction. All other baptisms for children of a William and Elizabeth Reed show the father as being a mason. Indeed this couple had a child baptised only eight months after this baptism. The only other William Reed (carpenter) having children baptised was married to Isabella Gray.
Moreover, this birthdate is fully consistent with stated ages in the 1851 census, and on William's death certificate of 1856.
