Information on William Ramsey

From "History of Sumner County, Tennessee", by Bill Puryear:

In 1789 Henry Ramsey, a trusted scout of Colonel Robertson and Hugh Webb were shot by Indians on the trail between Morgan’s Station and Greenfield in 1789. Ramsey’s brother, William, was killed by Indians hidden along the lane leading from Bledsoe’s fort to the creek.

From "The South-Western Monthly, Volumes 1-2", pub. by Wales & Roberts, 1852, pg. 335:

Mr. Alexander Neely and his two sons, James and Charles, were killed in the summer of 1790, at about one mile distant from Bledsoe's Lick fort. They had moved out from the fort to his farm, and the father and the two boys had taken a cart to haul some bark ; but the Indians lying in wait for them, killed all three. Duringthe same summer or that following, the Indians killed Henry and William Ramsay, two brothers. Henry was killed first, the Indians having fired upon several of a party, of which he was one. A Mr. Hicks was wounded at the same time. The brother, William Ramsay, came up from White's Creek soon after to attend to his brother's estate, and on his way back, the Indians lying in wait at the mouth of a lane killed him and his horse, also.

From Ancestry.com post:

According to Draper Manuscripts, Josiah Ramsey who was a captive of the Indians as a boy of about 10 was the son of Thomas Ramsey of Augusta County, VA who is found also in Boetourt, Fincastle and Washington Counties in VA. Thomas Ramsey who is said to have served in the French and Indian War is listed as one of the earliest settlers of Washington County, VA being there prior to 1770.

Henry and William Ramsey were also sons of Thomas Ramsey. He had daughters Mary Ramsey who married Colonel Anthony Bledsoe and Elizabeth who married Amos Heaton/Eaton.

Most of the members of this Ramsey family including Josiah, William and Henry removed to the Cumberland Settlements near Nashville. Henry, William, and Anthony Bledsoe were killed by Indians in the late 1780s. Josiah survived and removed to KY and finally to MO where he died at an advanced age.
