Poynter…..A family of the name Poynter was prominent in the early history of Lincoln County the ancestors being one Thomas Poynter and his wife, Nellie Brock, and their children included William, born in Virginia 1779; married Margaret Jones, and had 10 children, including a son Thomas born 1812, the father of Rev. Wiley T. Poynter, a prominent Methodist preacher (see “History of Methodism in Montgomery County (KY),” by Rev. Savage (Rev. James Everett Savage), 1939). Margaret Poynter, sister of Rev. Wiley T. Poynter, married Rev. T.J. McIntire, well known Methodist minister, whose son, Marvin McIntire, was President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s private secretary. Other children of Thomas Poynter, Sr., were Thomas II, John, Edward, Jesse and Nancy.
