 In the 1870 census for Steuben, Warren Co., Indiana, William Powell is 31, farmer from Indiana; Margaret is 30, Jenette E. 4; and (Marzennie?) 1. They are next door to her mother Elizabeth Shankland. {p. 356}
 In the 1880 census for Steuben, Warren Co., Indiana, William M. Powell is a farmer, age 41 from Indiana (father Wales, mother Illinois).  His wife Maragarett is 40, born Indiana (parents Kentucky).  Their children are Nettie, 14; Marcena, 11; Josie, 9; Effie, 7; and Mary E., 6 months -- all born Indiana.  Also in the household is Albert Sleeth, 19, born Indiana, farm laborer. {p.48a}  They are living next door to Elizabeth Shankland, her mother.
 In the 1900 census for Mt. Vernon, Lawrence Co., Missouri, William M. Powell is 61, born Mar 1839 in Indiana (father England, mother New York), married 37 years, farmer; with wife Margaret 60, born Jan 1840 in Indiana (parents Kentucky), with 6 of 9 children living; son Thomas C. is 17 b. Next door is [their son] Thomas C. Powell, 26 born Indiana, married 5 years; with wife Rena C. 22 born Missouri, and children Alma N. 4 and Ralph S.  According to a WorldConnect database, Mary Emma Powell married James Allen Hammer in 1897 in Mt. Vernon, and settled in Oklahoma.
