Looking at the English census records, WIlliam most likely came from Lincolnshire. Pinckney Village records William Potterton bought Lot 1 & 2, Block 3, Range 5 of Delia A. Mann Oct. 1899, which went to Mary Adeline Potterton in Feb. 1908, who sold to Catherine Marr, Sept. 1913. From Brighton Argus Obit 10-21-1908 Hamburg - William Potterton, an old resident of this village, having been here for the past 50 years, died at his home, October 14. His age was 82 years. Funeral held at the ME Church Saturday. Rev. L.N. Pattison officiating. Interment in the family lot in Hamburg Cemetery. He leaves a wife and one daughter. From the Pinckney Dispatch October 22, 1908 Funeral of William Potterton, aged 80 years held at the M E Church in Hamburg, Saturday, Oct. 17. He has been a sufferer the past nine months following a stroke of paralysis. His wife, formerly Addie Green of this place, and daughter Ruth survive him. From The History of Livingston Co. Lippincott & Co., Philadelphia Township of Hamburg The township contains two cemeteries, one on section 19 and the other on section 25. The latter, located south of Hamburg village, was laid out on an acre of land taken from the farm of Jesse Hall. At an early day the "First Hamburg Burial Association" was formed, and still has charge of this cemetery. Ferdinand Grisson was for many years its president. The present officers are, President, James Cunningham; Vice-President and Secretary, Ferdinand Grisson; Treasurer, Dennis Cory; Sexton, William Potterton. In this ground repose the remains of many of the pioneers of the neighborhood, with others who were prominent at different periods in the history of the township. |
