William Piggott was baptised on 19th October 1783 at Stevenage in Hertfordshire, son of a labourer called John Piggott and his wife Sarah.

William was married on 4th August 1804 to Mary Everitt, who was from the nearby town of Hitchin. They married at Hitchin and had their first son baptised there in 1806, before returning to Stevenage where they had another eight children baptised between 1807 and 1829. All the children's baptisms after 1817 record that the family lived at Letchmore Green in Stevenage. William was also recorded as being a labourer.

William died at Stevenage on 29th August 1840, aged 56. Mary survived him by nearly 21 years.
