"George Green, W. Penman, Judge Bell and Warren Jones went down to the Illinois river fishing on the first of last week. They did not catch more than they could eat, but to keep up appearances they bought some to carry home. Judge Bell is reported to have become so excited as to jump in the river after a very fine specimen he saw." The Republican Register, Sept. 22, 1883. Name: The Maquon Cem Book lists him as Wallace W., page 57. Occupation: From the 1886 Portrait and Biographical Album of Knox County: Maquon, according to the census of 1880, had a population of 548, which figure will pretty fairly represent its present population. Present Board of Trustees are : Chas. Brocker, Abraham M. Warfel, G. G. Shearer, L. G. Benson, C. T. Olmstead, and Chas. Dennis. Abraham M. Warfel is President, and W.W. Penmen, Clerk. References
