There is an Edwin Payne, stone merchant in the 1870 Coleford Kelly's Directory, and an Elms Payne, stone cutter/mason in 1852...possible relations, given William George's father-in-law's occupation???

A William Payne of about the right age is in the 1851 & 1861 Censuses locally with legitimate children born in Clifton also. Has to be a contender, but is a coach labourer in 1851 and a gardener in 1861. Not a gentleman as described by William on his marriage certificate.
