Facts and Events
Name William Riley Owens
Gender Male
Birth? 1828 Macon County, North Carolina
Marriage 1847 South Carolinato Mary Delila Fendley
Death? 13 Oct 1864 Civil War Battle at Hupp's Hill
Burial? 1864 Riverview Cemetery, Strasburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia

When visiting the museum at Hupp's Hill, they told me the men who died that day were buried in Strasburg. Those of the next battle were buried at Winchester. I went to all the cemeteries in Strasburg; met and elderly man (in his 90's) at Riverview. He said his grandfather died in that same battle; that some Virginia men had tombstones but those from other states are buried in a Confederate mound with large monument. He said "if your great grandpa was killed 'Octaber' 13th (meaning October) then he is buried right thar (there)". I enjoyed talking with him and my grandsons really enjoyed listening to him talk. This cemetery overlooks the Shenandoah River. I took pictures of the battlefield and the cemetery.
