Capt William Neill, of the ship “Robertson”, married Marion, 2nd daughter of late Capt John Neill, Greenock, 7oct1844, Greenock; see Agnes (inverclyde website, Glasgow Herald). In 1834 shipmaster John Neill arrived at Canada from Greenock with ship “Robertson” (web). Marion was probably daughter of Capt John Neill (d. 1842).

William Neill, shipowner, married to Marion Neill, Towerlands, Greenock, son of late Thomas Neill, shipmaster, and late Jean Garven, died 10mar1887, aged 69, of general arterial degeneration, all---sis abt ?4 yrs, dropsy abt 1 mth, witness son T. Possibly William: In 1847 William Neill, shipmaster, 72 Roxburgh St., Greenock (PO Directory). In 1861 Robert Dunlop (1803 Irvine, ship owner), nephew in law William Neill (1820 Irvine, underwriter larneger, dock agent), niece Marion Neill (1822 Irvine, wife of labourer), grandnephew Thomas Neill (1849, Greenock, son of labourer and scholar), were at 6 Brougham St., Greenock (census). In 1881 William Neil (1818 Irvine, shipowner), wife Marion (1820 Irvine), son Thomas (1849 Greenock, unm, sugar refiner), niece Marion Neill Orkney (1866 Bombay, India), were at 9 Octavia Terr., W. Greenock (census). Birth of Thomas not found on IGI. This probably refers to William: in 1890 James Neill, marine surveyor, successor to William Neill, underwriters’ surveyor, City bldgs, hse 55 Union St., Greenock (PO Directory), James was probably brother in law of William.
