"WilliamB Montague (RobertC) was born about 1536, probably at Boveney, and died probably shortly before 20 March 1594/5, when administration on his estate was granted to his son William. He married at Dorney, 27 May 1560, Margaret (Malthous) Grove. The marriage entry reads, 'Wm. Mowntegewe & Margareta Groffe, w., both of Boveney.' Finding this entry was a surprise, as the groom and bride sought were William Montague and Margaret Malthous, named by their son in the 1634 visitation. But the entry indicates that Margaret was a widow. A search was made in the parish registers of Binfield, Berkshire, the residence attributed to Margaret by her son. Here, in 1552, 'Thomas Grove & Margerit Malthus wer maried the iij daie of Julye.' The name 'Groffe' then is actually Grove, and indeed Margaret's maiden name was Malthous. Binfield parish registers were searched on LDS microfilm (reel 088220)."
