Born on 11 Feb 1840 in Caney Branch, Greene County,Tennessee. He was the son of James McMurtry and Abigail Reynolds. He was married to Diannah Boyd on 23 July 1859 had had four living children: William Granville McMurtry, James McMurtry, Sidney Melinda Tennessee McMurtry Honeycutt, and Margaret McMurtry Hayes Patton. He was in the Civil War and a farmer for many years.
After his wife died in 1889, he married Elizabeth Rudder 05 August 1890. After Elizabeth died, he married Margrette Jane Stephens on 22 December 1918. He died in Limestone, Greene County, Tennessee on 24 April 1919.
Gravesite Details
Date of death is 24 April 1919, vice 1920. I have a death certificate and military records to show this. I think the marker was put there when his daughter, Maggie McMurtry Hayes Patton died and the family got a double marker for them.
