Facts and Events
William was so mistreated by his step-mother, Hester (Flegal) Pew or Pugh McLain, that his father put him into another household. On Oct. 29, 1879, his father gave him to Nelson C. & Nancy Weaver, a German couple, and he was with them for 6 years. Louise Shambaugh writes: Wm. H. II was put out at age 10 or so and his younger brothers and sisters were also placed outside the home. His father divorced his second wife. My (Louise) grandfather managed to get enought education to become a United Brethren minister. he took the train from Ohio to Oregon and settled on a farm near Bellfontain, there marrying my grandmother who was of a pioneering family. 1880 Census of Jefferson, Williams, Ohio Page 524D Relation Sex Marr Age Born FB MB Occupation Nelson C.
