- Archibald Elkins was a half-brother of Rev. William McGuire who married James and Esther Brown's daughter Margaret Brown (Joseph McGuire who married Elizabeth Brown was closely related, but not a brother of William's). Archibald and William's mother, Nancy Leslie, first married John McGuire, and William was their son. John McGuire died when their son William was still small, and Nancy Leslie McGuire then married Richard Elkins in 1787. Archibald Elkins was their oldest son. This was a different Archibald Elkins than the one who was Absalom Elkins' father. Absalom's father Archibald was older and was the first cousin of the younger Archibald's father Richard Elkins.
