McCain, William - entered service 1776 in Virginia company which went to Canada; later entered service 1778 in New York; widow Charlotte applied for Pension in Orange County, New York (no date stated); claim forwarded to U.S. Congress, which never returned to Pension Office; Pension Application rejected, defective proof of service; 4th child born in 1784; little data in file; query letter in file 1907 from granddaughter Mrs. Theresa McCain in Durland, Brooklyn, New York states soldier entered service with 5 brothers, querier also was descendant of New York soldier Jeremiah Curtiss; query letter in file in 1919 from great grandson Frederick E. McCain, Detroit, Michigan, who was also great grandson of New York Revolutionary Soldier Samuel Ferguson. F-R6592, R1663.

- Names "beloved wife Charlotte", son Thomas McCain, his brothers William and Joseph and daughter Sarah's son William Trihs [?} when he arrives at twenty one years, daughter Elizabeth Wilcox and each of his [Thomas] other sisters Charlotte, Jane Mary and Susan.
