Mayberry, William - entered service 1776 as marine on ship Effingham; entered service 1778 in 4th Pennsylvania Artillery Regiment; granted 1810 in Wood County, Virginia; resided there in 1820 abt. age 28 with wife abt. age 63, their only child having moved away abt. 25 to 30 years earlier; William Mayberry Jr. made affidavit in 1819 there that he served in Revolutionary War with soldier; soldier's brother George made affidavit there in 1820; soldier resided 1824 in Muskingum County, Ohio, where he had moved from Virginia; query letter in file says soldier died there bet. 1820 & 1830. F-S41819, R1659.

    George Mayberry, brother of William Mayberry, Sr., was born about 1757;
    George Mayberry, "was an Irish gentleman, having emigrated to America in early life";
    John Pennybacker Mayberry, son of George Mayberry, "was born March 1, 1790 at Pine Forge near New Market, Virginia;
    In the year 1810 George Mayberry, accompanied by his son, John P., moved the family to Wood County, Virginia, "purchasing plantations near Belleville".
    William Mayberry, Sr. and his son, William Mayberry, Jr. also lived in Wood County, Virginia, but later moved to Muskingham County, Ohio.
