His baptism entry states his name as being William Martin BEER with parents Richard Martin, a miner, and Betsy Ann Beer, a servant, both residing in Metherill. This chld was raised by his father, Richard, and his paternal grandparents, William and Betsy Martin. In 1861, Betsy Beer lived at Metherell with her grandmother, Mary Beer a widow.

CJG: In both the 1871 nd 1881 census, he is part of the MARTIN household.
