Follower of the Duke of Monmouth, son of Charles II, exiled to Scotland, landing at Lime [Lyme] in Dorsetshire, England and proclaimed himself King. Revolution ended with the defeat at the Battle of Sedgemoor on July 6, 1685 and execution on July 15, 1685. Followers of Monmouth were ruthlessly hunted down and executed. Joel Lipscomb made his escape to Ireland, then obtained his passage to Jamestown, Virginia in 1690. |
