William Lovett's origins have yet to be established for certain. The age given when he died suggests he was born around 1756. William's first confirmed sighting is on 22nd February 1779, when he was married at St Mary's Church in Nottingham to Elizabeth Skellington. By 1782 they had left Nottingham and moved to the village of Owthorpe, where they had a daughter called Elizabeth baptised on 20th October 1782. William's wife died shortly afterwards, being buried at Owthorpe eleven days later. Their daughter died three months later. On 31st January 1785 William married again. His second wife was Elizabeth Bonser. She was from Colston Bassett, just east of Owthorpe, although at the time of their marriage she was living at Langar, another nearby village. William and Elizabeth went on to have eleven children baptised at Owthorpe between 1785 and 1808, although one died young in 1800. William was buried on 8th December 1822 at Owthorpe. He was said to be 66 years old. Elizabeth survived him by nearly nine years. References
