1841 - With parents at Dunston, Norfolk. Aged 2, born in the county.

1851 - With parents at Dunston, Norfolk. Scholar, aged 12, born at Dunston, Norfolk.

1861 - With wife and daughter at Chapel Street, Heigham, Norfolk. Police officer, aged 22, born at Dunston, Norfolk.

1871 - With wife, 6 children and mother-in-law at Naddington(?) Street, Heigham, Norfolk. Starch labourer, aged 32, born at Dunston, Norfolk.


The following is from the Norfolk Police Records a photocopy of which was forwarded by the Norwich Police department (from Paul Palmer):

1859, April15 - Appointed Police Constable, (a Groom from Dunstan, Norfolk, aged 20) 18 shilling class. Badge Number PC15 or PC7.

1861, March1 - Reprimanded and fined 2 shillings and sixpence for being late for duty.

1863, August 28 - Fined 2 shillings and six pence , found asleep on his beat.

1864, August 12 - Promoted to 19 shilling class for general good conduct.

1866, August 10 - Promoted to 20 shilling class.

1867, January 25 - Promoted to 22 shilling class for courageous conduct at a fire.

1867, April 18 - Pay increased to 22 shillings and 6 pence a week and to wear a badge persuant to order of Council on the 17th inst.

1868, May 8 - Ordered to wear another badge and receive 6 pence per week extra pay for courage and coolness at a fire at Messrs. Bullards Brewery on the 6th inst. (At this time the police force was also the fire brigade so PC Lingwood may have attended with the crew or discovered the fire and taken action, the few lines in the minutes do not clarify the situation.)

1869, December 24 - Dismissed from the Force, having absconded taking a watch and 2 shillings, and other articles the property of Prisoners who were committed for trial.
