His birth date is given as 4 Jun 1819, with no source. This seems unlikely, based on other records, including his obituary.
↑ His birth date is given variously as 4 Jun 1819, 4 Jun 1823 and 4 Jun 1826. The 1850 to 1870 census records imply he was born between about 1826 and 1829 - however, it is possible that his age in the 1850 census was supposed to be 29 rather than 21 (keeping in mind that the records we have now were transcribed from original forms that no longer exist, and that he had a 3-year old son in this census), and later census records may have understated his age. His obituary (see Find A Grave) says he died at age 94 - if true and he was born on 4 Jun, then he was born 4 Jun 1821. It is equally likely that he was born between 1825 and 1829 and that his age at death was exaggerated.
