1) BIRTH-SPOUSE-DEATH: Tombstone data gives death date and age (birthdate calculated from tombstone - age at death 50 years, 2 months, 20 days). Crete cemetery, corner of Exchange St. and Vincennes Ave., Crete, Will Co., IL. Also listed in reading of Crete Cemetery (1978) p. 6. South Suburban Gen. & Hist. Soc. Early Will Co. History states he moved to area in 1836 (SSG&HS Quarterly), from Ohio, appears in 1840 Will Co., IL federal census. 1850 mortality schedule for IL says born in NY; probate papers give no clue to birthplace. 2) MARRIAGE: From Barbour papers, FHL film #1,312,792. FHL file 1,312,794 shows a list of Freemen admitted to East Hartford in 1820 where a William Keeney appears on the first Monday of April. To qualify as a Freeman you had to be 21, own land, or both. 3) CONFLICT: 'VITAL RECORDS OF BOLTON TO 1854 AND VERNON TO 1852' (Allen Co. Public Library) page 85 lists a marriage of a William Keeney to Nancy Hunt on Dec. 15, 1825 in Bolton, CT by Rev. Isaac Dwinel. A William Keeney appears on p. 130 as town registrar in 1848 and still later as town clerk on p. 148. These last two entries cannot refer to my William Keeney as he was in Illinois by 1836. But who is the William Keeney who married Nancy Hunt? |
