Death claimed Carlisle's senior citizen, William Henderson Jackson, 96, last Thursday. He served as the city marshall several years and was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church Born in Prairie County, he lived there until 1942 when he moved to Carlisle to make his home. He had lived at the Golden Years Manor the past four years. In 1898 he married Miss Lizzie Morris and they were parents of eight children. Mrs. Jackson preceded her husband in death in 1942 as did three children, twin daughters, Velma and Thelma and Mrs. Lois Schafer. Survivors include two sons, Clarence Jackson and Douglas Jackson of Carlisle, three daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Bone of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Elva Carlisle of Hickory Plains and Mrs. Vera Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee; 20 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Carlisle First Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Chesser and the Rev. Flowers. Burial was in Walters Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Edward Schafer, Melvin Schafer, Wilford Carlisle, Morris Carlisle, Bill Johnson and Billy McFerrin. Honorary pallbearers were all other grandsons and great grandsons.
