William had been married previously to Jane Wilkinson MASSIAH, only daughter of William Wilkinson Massiah of Cramond, Midlothian (Burke's landed gentry, 2001). Jane was daughter of William Wilkinson Massiah, merchant and planter, Barbados (Seekers of Truth). William Ivory (1826) d. 1915 (scotlandspeople). Edinburgh; probate 12feb1916 London, James Ivory CA, Netta Ivory spinster, William Bannerman solicitor (National Probate Calendar); Netta was daughter Janet. William Ivory (1825-1915) was admitted as advocate in 1849, appointed sheriff of Inverness in 1862, an office he held until 1900; his papers were given to National Archive of Scotland abt 1936 by Eric J. Ivory, Edinburgh. The 4th son, William Ivory (26jul1825-20oct1915), Advocate 1849, Advocate-Depute 1859-62, Sheriff of Inverness, Nairn and Elgin 1862-1900. William was probably son of Anne Laurie. James Ivory (9feb1792-18oct1866) marr 1817 Anne, dau of Alexander Laurie, Dep Gazette Writer for Scotland. James became Lord of Justiciary 1849 and took title Lord Ivory. Janet Hunter Rankin was niece and co-heiress of Sir John Shaw, 2nd bart of Kilmarnock (Burke' landed gentry, 2001). In 1881 Annie Ivory (1850 Edinburgh) was at Grange Loan, Edinburgh, with her Ivory cousins: William (b. “1856”, probably 1826 Edinburgh), Sheriff Advocate, Janet H. (b. 1837 Irvine), SA’s wife, Annie L. (1855 Edinburgh), SA’s child, James (1862 Edinburgh), accountants clerk, Janet H. (1864 Edinburgh), Elizabeth A. (1865 Edinburgh) and 4 servants (census). Annie (1850) was presumably the Mrs. Ivory, of St. Roque, Grange Loan, in 1878 Edinburgh Directory. Besides being an Advocate, William was Sheriff of Inverness, Elgin and Nairn (1862-1900) ("Seekers of Truth" book). In 1891 William Ivory (1826 Edinburgh, advocate sheriff), wife Janet H. (1837 Irvine), children (b. Edinburgh) Annie L. (1855), James (1862, accountant), Janet H. (1864), Elizabeth (1865) were at 6 Whitehouse Terr., Edinburgh (census). From grousrv: Sir James Ivory (1765-1842) was the son of James Ivory, clockmaker, of Dundee by his first wife, Jean Brown. Sir James died unmarried and did not have arms (well, did not have arms matriculated at Lyon Court anyway). Neither did his half-nephew James, Hon Lord Ivory (1792-1866) who was a Lord of Judiciary in Scotland with the judicial title of Lord Ivory. The first grant of arms to the family was to Basil Gerritsen Ivory of Binny (1901-1973), gt-gt-grandson of Hon Lord Ivory who was granted the following on 22nd July 1935. Gules an elephant passant Or tusked Argent on a chief engrailed Ermine a pair of arrows in saltire points downwards Proper feathered of the field.
