When William was a few months old the family moved to Kansas they settled on a homestead where Lebo stands now.Their first home was a sod house having doors and windows made from native timber.At the age of 12 he worked as a water boy for Santa Fe Railroad when the line was being laid through Ottawa and Lebo. At the age of 16 he went to live with his sister Emma(emogene Humphrey Shaft and worked for her husband John Quincy Shaft. He spent the summer 1891 in Colorado with the Shaft family. On July 13,1891 in Colorado he discoved and located a silver mine in Huerfano Minning district. The family still has the certificate.The locating is unable to be mined He died from Cancer of the prostate.
