  1. William Housel, for a long term of years, a highly respected resident of Nichols, died at his home near that village, last Monday morning, April 21, 1902, after an illness of about one week. Mr. Housel had been in poor health for a number of years, but had not been confined to his bed until a few days before his death, which was due to a complication of diseases. He was nearly 59 years of age and was born in Lewisburg, Pa. He served three years in the war of the rebellion as a member of Co. C. Fifty-second regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers and was mustered out of the service a sergeant. He removed, with his family, to Nichols about 23 years ago and had since resided there. He was an engineer by trade and was thus employed for a long term of years until in the past few years ill health rendered it impossible for him to follow his vocation. He was a man of the strictest integrity, fair and honorable in all his dealings and leaves a large circle of sorrowing friends. He leaves, besides his wife, who is sister of John Fenderson of Owego, the well known lumberman, two sons, the older of whom, Lorenzo W., is an attorney, practicing in New Haven, Conn. and a member of the Conneticut general assembly and Robert C., 13 years of age who resides at home. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from the late residence in Nichols and the interment was in Nichols Cemetery.
