William Hornsby's origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is in 1777, when he married Joanna Outridge at Ickleford in Hertfordshire. At the time of their marriage he was living in neighbouring Hitchin. William and Joanna went on to have three children baptised at Ickleford between 1777 and 1784, although two of these died as babies. The family later moved to the neighbouring parish of Holwell, where they were living in 1797 when Joanna died. She was buried back at Ickleford, described as "wife of William Hornsby of Holwell", indicating that William was still alive at this point. He has yet to be traced after 1797. |
