Charley R. Hoffman may or may not be a child of this union. W. H. Hoffman's obit states only four children of this union. 1920 Soundex Iowa shows Clifford living with brother Charley. 1895 State Census Sac co Cedar Township shows W, H. Hoffman served Co. B 147 Regiment ILL - Private - War of the Rebellion (the above note regarding Charley Hoffman refers to the second marriage of W. H. HOFFMAN and Lovina Hamilton) Obit of William Henry Hoffman William Henry Hoffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oren Hoffman, was born Sept. 2, 1846 at Rushford, New York. He departed this life at his home in Des Moines, Iowa Dec. 9, 1935, age 89 years, 3 months, and 7 days. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted at the age of 17 and served in Company B, 147th Regiment, Illinois Infantry Volunteers.

He was united in marriage to Agnes Marks Aug. 30, 1866. To this union eight children were born - six dauthters, Margaret, Anna, Ina, Lucy, Lottie and Agness and two sons, James and George. Mrs. Hoffman died May 6, 1887.

On Oct. 2, 1888, he was married to Lovina Hamilton. To this union, four children were born - one daughter, Mable and three sons, Oren, Leland and Howard. The last named died in infancy.

For many years, he lived in and near Swan from where he moved about ten years ago to Des Moines where he has since made his home. On May 2, 1935 he suffered a light stroke of paralysis which left him in poor health. On December 3 he suffered another stroke from which he never recovered. Mrs. Hoffman having died a few years ago, his oldest daughter, Margaret Lyons was living with and caring for him.

He leaves to mourn his death, five daughters, Ina Lyons of Spirit Lake, Margaret Lyons and Lucy Briggs of Des Moines, Agness Baker of Newton and Mable Gregory of Runnels; and two sons, Oren and Leland both of Des Moines; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Early in life, he united with the Methodist church in Erie, Illinois, and at the time of his death he was a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Des Moines, also a member of a G.A.R. post in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at the Swan Church Tuesday December 10 at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. Bryant Mitchell of Des Moines. Burial was in the Swan Cemetery with last military rites being given under the direction of the Pleasantville Post of the American Legion.

His death marks the passing of the last Civil War veteran, whose home was at Swan.

5/11/96 On a trip to Des Moines we stopped and met Dorothy Hoffman, widow of Oren P. Hoffman, son of Wm H. Hoffman and 1/2 brother to Lucie Hoffman. She is the second wife of Oren P. Hoffman. Oren P. had two sons Roland born in 1936 and Ronald (injured in car accident in 1962 and died 1967). Dorothy married Oren in 1958. Oren died in 1967 and is buried at Highland Memorial Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa. She gave address - Roland Hoffman, 16978 Muntz Court, Dubuque, Iowa 52001-0124

Note- Child 6 and child 7 ate probably the same child which I believe was a son named George A. Hoffman
