Postmaster March 25, 1874 until 1878

William Garrett Hight attended public school four or five months each year for about three years. The school was about one mile for his home. He worked on his father’s home, “plowed from the time the crop commenced in February until finished in July, then help togehter crop.”

Before the Civil War, William Garrett owned no property. When he enlistede he was living in Rover, Bedford County, Tennessee., Some of those who served with him were: Ike Mofrris, R. H. Donally, Col. Robert Matthes (or Wathrs W. (illegile) Allison, Bill Blume, W. H. Arte4rn (Spelling mikght be misinterpreted) who did not go southb in the retre3at, Bill Wesgt who was “living somewhere in Gibs. Co., TN” in 1922, and Dr. Joe Street who lived somewhere in Texas in 1922.
