Searching for information on John Jenkins (ca. 1768-1856) who married Rachel McElhaney (ca. 1790-1859) in Botetourt Co., VA in 1816. She was the daughter of Samuel McElhaney, and her first marriage was to William Henry, Jr. who died in the War of 1812.
John and Rachel Jenkins moved to Surgoinsville, Hawkins County, Tennessee in 1827 or 1828 where they lived the remainder of their lives. It is believed that both had children from former marriages; however, their children together were:
1. Andrew Jackson Jenkins (1817-1859) md. Eveline Campbell, daughter of Ansel and Jenny (Allen) Campbell.
2. Griffin/Griffith Jenkins (1820-1880's)
3. Nancy C. Jenkins (1823-1892) md. Preston Williams.

This is what I now know: William Henry died in the fall of 1814 Botetourt Co. VA leaving a wife name Rachel (McElhaney); and four children under the age of 14: William, John, Samuel and Peggy. John Henry was Administrator of the estate; Lewis Harvey was made Guardian of the children; and those handling the estate were: Jacob Statler, Elijah McClanahan, Growy and Griffan (Looks like Lassiter), William Poage, John Poage and Esam Hannon. Others mentioned in the estate were: Thomas Clark, John Boon, David Sloan, Henry Webster, Wm. Faris, James Blair, Capt. Shurman, Owen Henry and William Henry.
I can now confirm through a Rachel McElhaney (married secondly John Jenkins in Botetourt Co.) Researcher, per War of 1812 document, that William and John Henry, sons of William Henry deceased 1814 Botetourt, were not Rachel's sons but instead were sons of William Henry and a first marriage.
