William M. Hayzlett

William's first wife was an Annie Sample who died after only 4 years of marriage-probably in childbirth. She is buried in Hancock Co., Indiana I note that the Indiana census shows a Sample family living near the Hayzlett brothers, James and Andrew, in Hancock Co, Indiana. Her headstone list her as wife of W. M. Hayzlett.
Proof of his relationship comes in his power of atty given to brother James Hayzlett to sell his father's land. (see below.) Entries before and after this are for additional powers of attorney to same James Hayzlett by Sarah Billups, Andrew Hayzlett, and Rebecca Barnett, all siblings of William. Additional proof is in Andrew Hayzlett's obituary identifying him as William's brother, both of Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
William married Elizabeth Williams 6 Feb 1840, Hancock Co, Indiana: info from Indiana Marriages on-line. HAYSLETT, William and Elizabeth Williams. Her maiden name, year given in History of Linn Co., Iowa (1878), p. 709. William was then living in Indiana where Elizabeth was born. That same year the couple moved to Linn Co., Iowa and were among very first settlers there.
