Facts and Events
Name William Jasper Hatfield
Gender Male
Birth? 27 Jan 1845 Greene County, Indiana
Military? 1863
Death? 14 Oct 1865 Mustang Island, Texas

(unmarried)

He served as a private in Co. H, 31st Indiana Vol Infantry (with his brother & a cousin, both named Jeremiah). The very scant military record says he died in bivouac at Mustang Island, Texas, of disease. No details are recorded, but Mustang Island was noted for its malarial fever and a large number of Union troops occupying the island at the end of the War contracted it.
