"William2 Harris (Thomas1), born say 1620, died in Middletown or Wethersfield, Connecticut, before 4 February 1688[/9] when 'heirs of the widow Harris' were mentioned as in possession of adjoining land in a deed from Thomas Williams to his son John Williams in Wethersfield, apparently in the neighborhood called Dividend in what is now the town of Rocky Hill. Contrary to early and repeated statements that William 'died in 1717, at an advanced age,' Middletown land records explicitly state that he was 'dead' on 1 April 1689 when his son-in-law and administrator, Francis Whitmore, took a deed from Samuel and Mary Bow in favor of William's estate. William's inventory had been presented in court on 7 March and administration was granted to Whitmore on the same day."

"81. William1 Harris had a two-acre house lot, 1643. He brought with him his wife, Edee, or Edith. He was brother of Daniel; he moved to Charlestown before 1652 (Boston R. Doc. 39-1878, p. 127), thence to Middletown, Conn. Dismissed from Rowley Church to Middletown, 18 May 1669."

"… It should be added that Middletown Deeds (1:106; 2:68,299) prove that William Harris had died during March 1688/9, not during 1717 as reported by James Savage (Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England2:365) and repeated in similar form by numerous later authors."
