William de Harcourt was Lord of Harcourt, Caileville, Beauficel, and lord of the manor of Stanton-under-Bardon, county Leicester. He espoused the cause of Henry I against Robert Curtois, commanded the troops which defeated Waleran de Beaumont, Earl of Mellent, in the battle near Bourgtouroude, A.D. 1123, and for his services was rewarded with large possessions in England, which he conferred upon his second son, Ivo de Harcourt. He had issue, Robert, Ivo, Simon, and Beatrix.
