1751: William Ham was a purchaser at the estate sale of John Lucas. Others attending include John Hubbard, John Snell, John Haskew, Daniel Ramsey, Samuel Ham, James Shepherd, Thoams Shackleford, John Foster, William Lucas Sr. and Jr. and others. 23 April 1763: Indenture between John Lucas and William Ham both of Orange Co. Wheras William Lucas, Father of William Ham's wife and Grandfather to John did by his last will and testament 14 January 1758 give to his daughter Mary Ham, 200 acres being the upper part of the tract. As it is a doubt whether Mary Ham by the gift aforesaid had an absolute right in the simple to the land, this indenture witnesseth John Lucas, in consideration love and affection he beareth unto his Uncle and Aunt William Ham and Mary Ham, as well as for 1 pound as heir at law to his grandfather Wil.iam Lucus, dec'c, do hereby grant 200 acres. Whearas the said James Walker then Sheriff of Orange County by virtue of a decree of the County Court of Orange in Chancery in the suit of Andrew Shepherd and Company, late merchants of Orange County against William Ham of said county did on 177? expose to sale at public auction the following tract of land in Orange county containing 200 acres and is the same tract of land whereon William Ham formerly lived, the 150 acres he bought of Thomas Warren and which was left by Will from William Lucas to his daughter Jean, wife to the said Thomas Warren, and the other 50 acres of said tract being left by William Lucas to his daughter Mary, late wife of the said William Ham , for the whole of the said 200 acres William Ham claimed under John Lucas, grandson and heir at law of the said William Lucas, decd, which lands were bounded by the line of Beverley Franklin, Hardwick, and Moses Lucas in the writing hereinafter mentioned which lands were mortaged to Andrew Shepherd and Company by the said William Ham by indenture 22 May 1764 and recorded in Orange County by virtue of which the aforesaid was obtained and James Summerville having offered the sum of thirty pounds 10 shillings paid by James Summerville for Andrew Shepherd and Company doth sell unto James Summerville the aforesaid tract of land.
