Facts and Events
The Hallock Genealogies in 1928 and 1992 continue the story of the progenitor of the Puritan Hallocks in America as Peter-1 Hallock, the father of this William-2 Hallock. There have been no records found to support that William Hallock's father was ever in America, or Southold, New York, or that his name was Peter. William Hallock is an ancestor of the two Harrison presidents (William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison), through two lines of descent. William Hallock is one of the Founding Settlers of Southold, Suffolk County, New York. WILL William Hallock died Sept. 28, 1684 in Southold, Suffolk Co, New York. He left a will dated February 10, 1682/3, which was proved Oct. 21, 1684. An inventory of his estate was taken within a month of his death, on 17 Oct, 1864. He named the following: Wife: Margaret Sons: Thomas, Peter, William, and John Daughters: (specifically stated to be in birth order) Mary, Martha, Sarah, Elizabeth and Abigail Executors: wife Margaret, assisted by James Reeve, and Caleb Horton Witnesses: Stephen Bayley, Thomas Mapes, Jr., Joshua Horton, Jonathan Horton, Abraham Carey IDENTITY OF WIFE His wife was named Margaret in his 1684 will, but we do not know if she was the mother of his children. There has been speculation that his wife was a Margaret Howell, a relative, possibly mother of Richard Howell of Southold; or a Frances Paxton of Southampton. Both theories have been debunked. Her identity continues to be unknown. |
