    William Gibson Guerrant was the son of John R. Guerrant of Buckingham County, VA and Miss Octavia Gibson of Montgomery County, VA. He had one brother, Peter Moss Guerrant. On 21 Jul 1862 at the age of 33,William enlisted as a Private in the Confederate States Army (CSA) and was mustered into Company A, 13th Virginia Battn. Light Artillery. On 15 Apr 1863, he was captured by Federal troops in Kentucky and taken to Camp Chase Union Prison Camp near present day Columbus, OH. On 15 May 1864, William was exchanged for Union prisoners and soon rejoined his unit. He survived the war, returned to Montgomery County, VA and, on 5 Sep 1867, married Bettie R. Miller. The couple had 3 sons and 3
    daughters. In his diary, Captain Edward O. Guerrant wrote about a chance meeting with William during the Civil War. Page 79 of "Bluegrass Confederate:

    The Headquarters Diary of Edward O. Guerrant".
