"Ms sketch of the Griffith Family writted in the period 1887-1892 by James Griffith (1808-1892) found in the William Griffith Papers in the Historical Society of York County - My Great grandfather William Griffith ... came to this country with William Penn in 1682. Whether great grandfather was born in England or Wales I do not know but I think I have been told that he was born somewhere near London. Whether he was married before he came I do not think I ever heard. He settled in what is now New Castle County in the State of Delaware on the bank of Christiana creek which empties into the Brandywine at Wilmington. He and his wife had one son and two daughters, if there was more they must have died in infancy, as I never heard of them. The daughters' names were Sarah & Deborah. Sarah married a man by the name of Clark, what became of them I never heard. Deborah married Benjamin Delaplane and they lived a short time in the neighborhood and then moved to Kentucky, this is all I know about them ...Great Grandfather Griffith, after his wife died and his daughters got married came and lived with grandfather (his son William Griffith b. 1714. He died here on this place at the age of 105 and was buried in the burial ground at Warrington Meeting House where some 50 or 60 of his posterity have been buried."
