  • William Roger Goudelock served with the 1st Battalion of the 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), Co. DS1,S2, a maneuver battalion of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team (BCT) nicknamed “Sky Soldiers”. During his service time they had several nickname’s: “The Herd” and “The Rock Regiment.”
By February, 1968, the 173rd Airborne Brigade was located along the 100 miles of Route 14 from Kontum to Pleiku to Ban Me Thout and along 150 miles of Route 19 from Pleiku to An Khe to Qui Nhon as well as conducting operations to the west of Tuy Hoa.S3
