June 24, 1999 Dear Darrell: The Gorman family that married into the the Miller and Nolen family lived next door to Stephen and Nancy Reynolds Nolen in Harris, Laurel Fork, Lewis Co., KY along the Kenniconick River. There is no marriage record of the event due to a flood in the 30's. THe Gov't Census says Sarah Gorman and Isaac Nolen were married in the year 1846. Both are buried in the Nolen Cemetery next to the Nolen Pentacostal Church. Their land is still intact and belongs to a member of the Nolen family. Both Isaac and Sarah had known Mary and James Nolen for over 50 years and attended their wedding. The listing in the 1850 Lewis Co. Census is as follows: 486 William Gorman 49 M Farmer 400 Do (ditto KY) Nancy 50 F Do (ditto KY) Delia 29 F Do (Ditto KY) William 15 M Do (Ditto KY) Easter 12 F Do (Ditto KY) Andrew J. 9 M Do (Ditto KY) Elizabeth 5 F Do (Ditto KY) The above William Gorman was obviously born at the turn of the century. There is also a Hotel in Vanceburg and among the tenants are Nolens and Gormans who migrated from Ireland to KY and are not part of the line already living in Lewis Co., KY. Perhaps this is why the information does not match. Should you like a copy of the 1850 Lewis Co., KY Census page 474 Laurel Fork, please send your address and I will be happy to send it to you. Try and get two sources on the Census listing you found if you think me in error. It is possible that this William Gorman is related to the wife Sarah in this Perry family of Carter Co., KY. The more sources you have the better off you are. Thank you for the data. Should I find anything While checking it out I will let you know right away. I do still have one question. Where did you find the information of the first wife of William Gorman Jr. If you have a copy of the marriage License, Bond or minister's return I would like to please request a copy for my records. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely.......................Patt References
