Crystal,

Nice to meet you, cousin. I live in Winchester, KY but I was raised in Breathitt Co. KY. I have been to a few of the Gillum reunions when I was younger. I may try to go this year if work permits. I think it is the 2nd Sun. in Aug.

I am still in the process of researching but I would love to share what I have so far.

First, I can only go back to William Gillum and Susannah Barnett. I can not find any information to prove who Williams parents were. William was born Abt. 1820 in VA and died in Breathitt Co. KY. He married Susannah 11-20-1842. Susan was born 2-17-1826 in VA and died 6-17-1906 in Breathitt Co. KY. Susannah is buried in the Elam Cemetery in Bays KY. I still have not found Williams grave but I think he may have been buried near Lost Creek with his son, William Harvey (b.11-1-1843).

William moved his family from Scott Co. VA to Breathitt Co. Ky. I dont know exactly when William left Scott Co. VA but according to Scott Co. VA death records, I know they were still in VA in 1855 because they lost a child that was three days old in Oct of 1855. William Harvey (b. 1843), stated in his civil war pension records that he had lived at or around Lost Creek KY since the year 1857.

William is on the Breathitt tax list in 1859 as follows;

William Gillum One white male over 21

                               One horse or mule valued at $80
                               Three cattle
                               Five children between 6 and 16
                               One free white person that are blind
                               Four hogs over six months old
                               30lbs of tobacco
                               300 bushel of corn

1850 Scott Co. VA census reads as follows;

House No. 1366

                                 Age Sex Occu. B/P Can not read or write

Susannah Gillam 24 f VA x

James G. Gillam 9 m VA

William H. Gillam 6 m VA

Ira Gillam 2 m VA

William last appears in the Breathitt census in 1880. Susan last appears in 1900.

Children of William and Susan are

James G. b. 1841 d. 1909 m. Louisa Cope

William Harvey b. 1843 d. 1927 m. Delilah Cope

Houston b. 1848 d. ? m. Nancy Chapman

I have seen Charles Martin Gillum listed as a son but I still do not have any proof of this. Charles does not appear on any census until 1900.Charles Martin married Isabella Cope. Isabella, Delilah and Louisa were all sisters.

Out of time for nowbut I will get back with you soon.

Thanks,

Chris
