HAW RIVER — Mr. William Lawrence Garrison Jr.., 79, of 371 Trollingwood Road, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. after a critical illness of six weeks. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs.. Mary Elizabeth Sharpe Garrison, who survives, and the son of the late William Lawrence Garrison Sr. and Lillian Anderson Garrison. He was a graduate of Burlington Business College, and retired from Western Electric and GKN. He was a member of the Haw River Historical Society. He was a member of the Pioneers of America, and also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Haw River Christian Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, William Anthony Garrison of Graham; daughters, Elizabeth Ann Garrison and her husband, Dennis L. King, of Memphis, Tennessee and Susan Elaine Garrison and her husband, Nolan M. Presswood, of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren, Westley Garrison King of Memphis and Garrison Ryan Presswood of Charleston; and a brother, Charles Holt Garrison of San Francisco, Calif. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Claire Tate; and a brother, James Edwin Garrison. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Haw River Christian Church by the Rev. Brian Biggers, pastor, and the Rev. James L. Rosser, former pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina with military honors. The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2005 and at other times at the residence.
