Facts and Events
From The Gardiners of Narragansett, p. 6S1 "In 1671 (January 21), [William Gardiner] bought two hundred acres of land of John Porter, of Pettaquamscutt, and 'Horod his wife,' calling himself 'Son of George Gardiner, of Newport.' As he must have been twenty-one at that time, he was possibly born in 1650, or near that date. In 1679 he signed a petition to the King with others in the Narragansett country. In 1688 he was a Constable, and the same year was on the Grand Jury. May 23, 1701, he deeded 'son and daughter Joseph and Ann Hull,' two hundred and nine (two hundred and four?) acres 'for love, &c.' In 1706 (January 18), he deeded 'for love, &c.' to 'Son John Gould and Elizabeth his wife,' a tract of land (twenty acres). He married Elizabeth. She died in 1737. Her will, written in February, 1736, was probated March 15, 1737. She mentions son William Gardiner, grandson William Gardiner, son of William, daughter Tabitha Avery and granddaughter Tabitha Avery, grandson John Gardiner and grandson Thomas Gardiner, granddaughter Desire Gardiner and granddaughter Susannah King, granddaughters Marbery, Susannah and Mary Potter, and grandson Thomas Potter."
