W.G. FULLER IS DEAD AFTER A LONG ILLNESS
Prominent in Business Here For Many Years Submitted to Operation Once of Fuller & Feller Lumber Company Health Failed Two Years Ago, Since When He Grew Gradually Worse--An Active Career Here
William G. Fuller, a resident of Leavenworth for thirty years, and among this city's best known business men, died at St. John's hospital at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, following an operation performed as a last resort to relieve him from a protracted illness. He was 54 years old.
Funeral services will be conducted at the family residence, No. 200 Columbia avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Atkinson of the First Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. J.S. Davis of Kansas City, the Rev. E. Floyd of Independence, Mo., and Chaplain Leavitt of the federal prison, will have charge. Burial will take place in Mount Muncie cemetery.
Born in Taylor county, Ia., June 18, 1858, Mr. Fuller was educated in his hometown and lived there or thereabouts until he reached early manhood, soon after which he came to Leavenworth. Shortly after his arrival here, where he engaged in government contracting business, he was married to Miss Christina Bedwell of Leavenworth.
In later years he organized and became president of the Robert Garrett Lumber Company, which later became the Fuller & Feller Lumber Company. Under the later name the firm became one of the foremost in Leavenworth county, and in it he remained until about four years ago, when he again resumed government contracting.
WHEN HIS HEALTH FAILED
Some two years ago Mr. Fuller's health began to fail. At first it was not thought his condition would become serious, but it was not long before he was compelled to give up the activity in which he had been engaged practically all his life theretofore.
Slowly but surely his condition became worse. Several weeks ago he was compelled to take to his bed, and more recently an operation was decided upon as the only means of saving his life. This operation was not successful.
Mr. Fuller was one of the men who made Leavenworth what it is. Although not among the older residents, he always was active in anything which had to do with the betterment of the city and everything having to do with it. He always had been a member of the First Baptist church here. He was among the foremost members of the Leavenworth lodge of Elks.
Other than Mrs. Fuller, three sons and three daughters, as follows, survive: Roy, Arthur and William Fuller Jr., Mrs. Ira Bebout, Mrs. J.E. Faulkner and Miss Gertrude Fuller. All live in Leavenworth.
The pallbearers for the funeral will as follows: William Albright, H.C. Feller, E.W. Snyder, P.J. McDonald, John Gable, Fred McGaban, C.P. Rutherford and V.A. Kelly.
