WILLIAM FRIZZELL
William Frizzell lived in Lancaster County, Virginia. The name William
or "Wm. Frisell" first appears in 1653, as being a person transported by
Fardinando Austin. Either he, or several other persons, bearing a
likeness to his name were transported in 1662, 1663 and 1666.
When or where William was born is a question; as is his parentage.
Variations of the name Frizzell appear as early as 1649 in Virginia.
Between this date and 1676, when William died, there appear the
following names: George, Dan Sr., Dan Jr., Alexr. and John, in addition
to Will(iam). Perhaps these others are brothers or near kin? Very little is known of William Frizzell, other than what can be found in various legal proceedings. William is referred to as both John and William in documents involving the will of Charles Hill. His name is linked as the husband of Ardry or Ardrey, widow of Charles Hill. It is possible that William (John) Frizzell married Ardry Hill about 1660, give or take a few months. Charles Hill was last involved in a land transaction on March of 1659.
At Court on 11 Sept. 1661, "Will Frizell and Ardrey his Wife Administrix to Charles Hill late decd..." appear in settlement of Charles Hill's estate. The last mention of Ardrey is a document dated 10 February 166 3/4 in Lancaster County.
William is next mentioned with a wife at a court hearing on 10 Dec. 1673. His wife's name is Ann or Anne. In his will, written 13 Aug. 1675 and probated 18 Sept. 1676, William names his wife, Ann, who, at the time, was in England.
I do not know whether William had any children by Ardrey. Evidence seems to indicate that he had at least three children by his wife Anne. In his will, he mentions that he has four children, but names only Francisco and
Margaret. The names of three of his children, including the latter two, are mentioned in the will of Francis Pritchard, Anne's children: Franciscus, Margaret and Mary. Perhaps, William had one child by Ardrey whose name remains unknown.
Upon the death of William, Anne married George Fin ch. The exact date of William's death and Anne's subsequent marriage is unknown. William wrote his will on 13 Aug 1675. His will was probated on 18 Sep t. 1676. Six days before the probate, on 13 Aug. 1676, Francis Pritchard, mother of Anne, took the following court action: ffrancis Pritchard vs. George ffinch who married the Exx. of William ffrissell, for the inv of the Est."
The will of Thomas Stamps, of Maryland, who made his will on 29 April 1723, has the following note attached. "John Flint who witnessed the will of Thomas Stamp: That Margaret Frizzell who married Timothy Stamps had a sister Ann who married George Finch in 1675." Perhaps, the note should have said that Margaret Frizzell had a mother, Ann, who married George Finch--the note was added some 48 years after the death of William Frizzell.
Ann and George Finch h ad at least two children. In her will, Frances Pritchard also mentions her son-in-law, George Finch and Ann his wife, Rebecca Finch, their daughter, and her grandchild Elizabeth Finch. In 1721, Francessco Frizzell, brother to Margaret Stamps, deeded 130 acres in the Northern Neck <<Virginia>> to William Stamps.
