The William Francis that allegeding adopted Jonathan also came to Ohio. he

settled over near Newark. There is information that indicates that Jonathan and
William visited back and forth. In fact another brother of William's, John
Francis a Rev. War Soldier, who also lived near Jonathan was visiting his
brother William when he died. John then was hauled back to Vinton Co. by horse
and wagon and buried in the Tweed Cem. there.
It is also beleived but no actual proof that Jonathan Hall's biological mother
was a Wyckoff. The Samuel Wyckoff family also lived in the same area.
William Francis was of an old colonial family and was a soldier in the
Revolutionary War. He was present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis to
Admiral de Grasse, in Yorktown, Virginia on October 19, 1781. William was only
   18 at the time.
William married in his native state to Miss Mary Romine and it is said that they
were the parents of 24 children, 16 of them lived to manhood and woman hood. It
is also said that they were four sets of twins among the 24 children, but we
have no record of four sets being born to them. We have uncovered one set, the
   others we have not.
William and Mary were both charter members of the Beulah Primitive Baptist
church. He served as deacon for forty years or more. They emigrated here from
Louden County, VA. in the year 1816 and located in Licking County, Ohio, near
the Muskingum County line, and erected a log house just north of the spring
homestead. It is said to have been the first house to be lathed and plastered
in Licking county. Their chimneys were built of sticks and plastered inside and
out with clay mud seasoned with chaff to hold the mud from falling out. William
purchased 350 acres of land from Daniel Shadley, who had emigrated from the same
county in Virginia three of four years before when they used greased paper for
window glass. (Notes from the Varner Family Tree:)
