Message: Obit of Wm Findley d 04 Aug 1881-Sandy Lake, PA . Pub in the Sandy Lake News 11 Nov 1881. Obit of Wm Findley of Greenwood Twp, Crawford Co, PA states that 4 of the sons of Wm & Rebecca Taylor Findley were in the War Between the States. 3 were killed. I have the pension papers for the widow of Thomas Samuel Findley- Mary Ann Christ/Crist. Does anyone know who the other 2 sons were? 1850 Census Greenwood Twp, Crawford Co., PA lists sons; Alexander, Joseph, Edward & James. Thomas Samuel had already left home. Sold his land in 1854 and west to Iowa, then Indiana, then Wisc. where he enlisted in the Wisc. Vols. and killed in Miss in 1862. Also need documentation that CLEARLY relates Thomas Samuel to his father William. Thank you- Margaret Findley -

Margaret,

Hi, I'm Anna Seley. My husband's great grandmother was one of William Findley's daughters, Lucretia. She married William B. Seeley. I haven't found any more information on Thomas but just wanted to let you know I'm plugging away on the Findley family.

I just read about a James Findley who married a young woman by the name of Caroline Buell in 1847 in St. Joseph, MI and came to the Oregon Territory. James died in December 1847 and Caroline gave birth to their daughter in March 1848. Her name was Sarah Buell Findley. She was born at Fort Vancouver, Oregon Territory. Now Clark Co., WA.

I live just outside of Vancouver, WA and have spent a lot of years watching as they reconstruct the fort.

James' parents were John and Nancy. Both had been born in PA around 1801-1802. Do these name sound familiar? Are they closely related to William, Lucretia etc.?

Hope to hear from you on this matter.

Anna Seley

Anna- I'm so so happy to find you!!! I have loads of info on this family!! I have proven Sarepta Findley, sister to Lucretia, back to Alexander of Findley Lake. This I have done for a young lady in Wash. state for her DAR membership. It was only recently approved in D.C. Lucretia and Sarepta were sisters to Thomas Samuel Findley. I have been working on this family for about 20 years and have notebooks & boxes of info. My problem is finding the docu- mentation proving that Thomas Samuel was part of this family. He was gone from home when the 1850 census was taken in Crawford Co, PA- but Sarepta and Lucretia were in the house- hold. Brothers named- Alexander, Joseph, Edward and James. 2 of these brothers- along with Thomas Samuel- were killed during the War between the States. I have not been able to discover which other 2. I have pension papers for Mary A. Crist Findley- widow of Thomas Samuel. I knew that the Seeleys were related, but wasn't sure just how. James was a very popular name in the Findley clan. The James you name- b in 1801- is too early to be the s/o Wm & Rebecca- parents of the children I named above. I'm sure he fits in here somewhere with this bunch Please let me hear from you again- I'm happy to share any- thing I have.-- Margaret D. Findley
